Village Coffee Morning July 2023

Pam James and Jane van Duijvenvoorde provided a splendid array of cakes for the coffee morning. Even though not so many people were able to attend, we did manage to raise £67.89 for Hope House. The gluten-free orange and almond cake was so appreciated by one of the local builders that he couldn’t resist a second piece. Many thanks for the generosity of those that came, the contributors and even some who were unable to attend.

The next coffee morning will be on Thursday 19th October and we very much hope to see you there.

New Age Kurling

Saturday June 10th was a warm summer evening and eighteen villagers dragged themselves away from the UEFA Cup Final to take part in the first Caynham New Age Kurling tournament.

Players were randomly assigned to five teams who then played a round robin. After much hilarity and cheering, the blue team emerged victorious and claimed their prize of a Terry's Chocolate Orange each. Congratulations to the winners: Jean Faulkner, Catherine Newcombe, Adriana Holbech and Penny Lang. Well done to the green, orange and the yellow teams who came joint second just two points behind and commiserations to the purple team who will have an opportunity to restore pride when we play again later in the year.

King Charles III Coronation Lunch

The village hall buzzed with the sound of revellers enjoying a sumptuous feast to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. This was a bring and share lunch on 7th May, 2023 attended by 35 guests from all parts of Caynham village. Thanks to the generosity of everyone, there was a huge variety of delicious main dishes and desserts as well as plenty of raffle prizes. Much effort had been made to decorate the hall and the tables in suitably patriotic colours. Special recognition is due to Barbara and Stephen Ashford for organising the event and to Chris and Mandy for providing the excellent table decorations. This was an opportunity for a celebratory gathering and as one guest said, the village hall is an excellent and attractive venue for this type of event.

Village Coffee Morning April 2023

More than 25 villagers attended the coffee morning on April 18th and enjoyed sumptuous cakes and the opportunity to catch up on the latest news. Two tables of books were available for sale at knockdown prices. The event was in aid of the British Red Cross Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal. Thanks to the generous donations of cakes, books and cash by those who came as well as those who were not able to attend this time, the event generated a net profit of £115.50 which has now been donated to the Appeal.

St Mary's Church Easter Coffee Morning 2023

It was so nice to see so many people at the Easter Coffee Morning on April Fools Day. Many new faces and regular supporters. Easter hot cross buns, simnel cakes and chocolate cakes were all popular. A successful raffle, book and bric a brac, preserves and jig saw puzzles stalls attracted many purchases. Thank you to all who donated items, and to the people who ran the stalls and helped in any way. We made a profit of £318.56 which will be very welcome in the church funds. Jill Bufton.

Table Top Sale March 2023

A packed village hall hosted the event with 11 tables overflowing with goods. Private sellers and the village hall itself had a successful day and, as usual, there was an abundance of tea, coffee and delicious cake (kindly donated by several villagers). Due to the generosity of all involved, the event raised over £200 for village hall funds. Thank you to all those who participated or contributed. We plan to hold  another sale event on Sunday 15th October and very much hope to see you there.

Big Breakfast March 2023

After a break of several years, courtesy of COVID, the Caynham Big Breakfast returned with a bang (or should that be “banger”). Over 50 villagers enjoyed a sumptuous cooked breakfast and it was wonderful to see so many families tucking in. Between the raffle and breakfast sales, the Village Hall raised over £130 after costs. This would not have been possible without the participation of the village, so a huge thank you for coming and for your generosity.

The event was organised by Gillian Bissell who was also Head Chef. Many thanks must also go to her willing band of helpers, namely: Caroline, Diane, Jane, Jean, John, Paula, Pam and two Peters. If you have any suggestions for improving the Big Breakfast, please email Gillian at caynhambookings@gmail.com

Further communal eating events are planned in the near future.

January 2023 Coffee Morning

The Village Hall was buzzing to the sounds of a very successful coffee morning on Tuesday 24th. The event, in support of the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal attracted over 20 villagers as well as some visitors from up the hill. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who came, and some who did not, we raised £106 which has already been donated to the appeal (click Thank You button below). This was a real group effort which would not have been possible without the kind contributions of cakes, cake stands, coffee and equipment which helped to keep the coffee flowing. Thank you so much for that and thanks also to all those who set up, washed up and cleared away.

We will have another coffee morning as everyone enjoyed meeting up and having a good chat.
